Technical Consultation on Seagrass Restoration and Carbon Sequestration Assessment in the Cu Lao Cham Nature Reserve, Da Nang City
On the morning of December 6, 2025, the Faculty of Environment, University of Sciences, Hue University (HUSC), in collaboration with WWF - Vietnam, convened a professional consultation meeting as part of the project “Pilot Seagrass Restoration Integrated with Livelihood Improvement in Cu Lao Cham.”
The meeting was attended by Mr. Ly Viet Hung, Head of the Carbon Neutral Economy Division, Center for Climate Change Adaptation and Carbon Neutrality, Department of Climate Change; Assoc.Prof. Le Van Thang - Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Nature and Environment Protection; Mr. Phan Van My - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Nang City; Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phuoc, Director of Environmental Protection Sub-Department, Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hue City; Ms. Nguyen Thi Dieu Thuy, Ocean Program Director, WWF – Vietnam; Dr. Phan Tuan Anh, Vice Rector of HUSC; Assoc.Prof. Hoang Cong Tin, Dean of Environment Faculty along with more than 50 participants, comprising leaders and representatives from relevant agencies, organizations, and research institutions, as well as faculty members and numerous students, trainees, and doctoral candidates.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Phan Tuan Anh, Vice Rector of HUSC, highlighted the high quality of the technical consultation session, which brought together leading scientists from diverse fields, including marine ecology, blue carbon, and ecosystem conservation. He also highly commended the Faculty of Environment for its active collaboration and research efforts in ecosystem conservation, green technology transfer, and community engagement toward the achievement of sustainable development goals.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Phan Tuan Anh, Vice Rector of the University of Sciences, emphasized the high quality of the professional consultation session, marked by the participation of leading scientists in marine ecology, blue carbon, and ecosystem conservation. He also highly commended the Faculty of Environment for its active collaboration and research efforts in ecosystem conservation, green technology transfer, and community engagement in pursuit of sustainable development goals.
The program featured presentations on technical solutions for seagrass restoration and carbon sequestration assessment, the sharing of preliminary survey findings from Cu Lao Cham, and discussions on pathways for integration into national climate change adaptation policies. Participants also visited the experimental seagrass cultivation model at the Faculty of Environment’s research site. The plenary discussion was dynamic and substantive, attracting insightful expert contributions and opening up promising directions for future research collaboration.
