Welcoming of a delegation of scientists from the University of Tokyo and experts from JICA
On July 22, 2024, a delegation of scientists from the University of Tokyo and experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan led by Prof. Dr. Kensuke Fukushi, Director of the Institute for Future Initiatives at the University of Tokyo and Vice President of the Vietnam-Japan University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi visited the Faculty of Environmental Science, University of Sciences. Hue University. There were also Assoc. Prof. Hiroyuki Kato from the Department of Urban Engineering, University of Tokyo, and some researchers and students of the department; Mr. Norihide Tamoto, JICA expert at the Ministry of Construction; and Mr. Kojima Suzuki, Director of Enzyme Company, Japan.
On behalf of the Faculty of Environmental Science, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Cong Tin, Dean of the Faculty, briefly introduced the Faculty of Environmental Science and previous research collaborations with scientists from the University of Tokyo. From 2010 to 2016, the Faculty of Environmental Science collaborated with partners from the University of Tokyo to do projects on water quality monitoring and modeling, urban flooding forecasts, and assessment of health risks in urban flood conditions in Hue City. Accordingly, staff and student exchanges, internships, and scientific workshops were successfully organized. Prof. Dr. Kensuke Fukushi was one of the key contributors to promoting these cooperative activities.
Both parties discussed potential further collaboration, particularly in evaluating the environmental, social, and public health impacts of the Hue City Water Environment Improvement Project, supported by JICA, after operating the wastewater collection and treatment system for the southern basin of the city. The Faculty of Environmental Science is willing to receive postgraduate students from the University of Tokyo for internships.
The University of Tokyo invited scientists from the Faculty of Environmental Science and Hue University to register for the 14th International Symposium on Southeast Asian Water Environment (SEAWE), to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in December 2024. In turn, the Faculty of Environmental Science invited Prof. Fukushi and scientists from the University of Tokyo to participate in the 2025 International Forum on Green Technology and Management (IFGTM 2025) in Hue, hosted by the University of Sciences, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Faculty of Environmental Science.
Hopefully, the relationship between the Faculty of Environmental Science and traditional partners at the University of Tokyo will be revitalized.
