Faculty of Environmental Science worked with an expert delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB)
On July 3, 2024, the Faculty of Environmental Science worked with an expert delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on the occasion of the delegation's working trip to Thua Thien Hue province within the framework of the Technical Assistance Project for the province on climate change and green growth funded by ADB. Dr. Deborah Cornland, ADB Climate Change Policy and Strategy Expert and Head of the Technical Assistance Team, led the delegation with domestic experts and staff. Dr. Le Cong Tuan, Deputy Dean of the Faculty, and faculty members with relevant experience received and worked with the delegation.
The technical assistance project "Support and remarks on updating the action plan responding to the climate change in Thua Thien Hue province to implement the national strategy on climate change and green growth in Vietnam" (HTKT project 9716) is one of four projects that ADB is funding for Thua Thien Hue province. The delegation's purpose was to work with the Departments of Thua Thien Hue province and organizations, and units related to the HTKT 9716 project to collect information aiming to better understand the current situation of Thua Thien Hue province and other opportunities to promote the green growth as well as solve problems of climate change, thereby prioritizing activities and building the appropriate documents to intervene into the updated climate change action plan (CCAP) and green growth action plan (GGAP) of Thua Thien Hue.
The Faculty of Environmental Science presented the associated capacity, experience, knowledge, and viewpoints as a role of a research unit. Both sides had a fruitful discussion about the limitations of building and associating the local CCAP and GGAP, the hinders to implementing CCAP and GGAP in the locality, and the situation of calculating greenhouse gas at present, lessons of updating CCAP and ADB appreciated the Faculty's knowledge and experience in climate change and green growth and suggested the Faculty of Environmental Science build concept notes on improving the building, updating, and implementation of CCAP and GGAP to submit ABD for funding consideration.
