The international workshop on “Stakeholder meeting and cooperation possibility for smart sustainable city”
On October 1, the international workshop on “Stakeholder meeting and cooperation possibility for smart sustainable city” was held in Hue City in the framework of the project on Sustainability Alliance of Urban networks in Asian cities (SAUNAC). The project members are 6 Vietnamese universities including the Faculty of Environmental Science of the University of Sciences, Hue University and 5 European universities.
The objectives of the workshop were to review the project’s achievements during 3 previous years and to broaden the cooperation possibility with the stakeholders in building the sustainable cities in Vietnam. Attending the workshop, there were Mr. Phan Thien Dinh – Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province, Assoc. Prof. Huynh Van Chuong – Vice President of Hue University, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hien – Rector of the University of Sciences, Hue University and about 100 leaders of institutions relating to the development of smart sustainable cities in Central Vietnam.
The rapid urbanization in Vietnam has recently resulted in the negative impacts on the environment, infrastructure as well as cultural socio-economic development. SAUNAC project has been implemented to handle the urgent needs of the society and to foster the new approach to smart sustainable cities in Vietnam.
The discussions were focused on Smart city – Theory and Practice; Applied rates were established for smart cities in Vietnam, etc. As a member of the project, the Rector of the University of Sciences Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hien stated that in the effort of the whole country, Thua Thien Hue had been recognized as the first locality to build and implement the Intelligent Operations Center (IOC) in Vietnam. Therefore, the activities of SAUNAC project had been the pioneer contributions for the success of the proposal of developing the smart sustainable city in Vietnam. It is vital to link the connection between the local authorities, organizations and individuals with universities for mutual support in the process of socio-economic development. The University of Sciences has promoted many collaborations with a series of universities in the world in terms of research and education.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Mr. Phan Thien Dinh indicated that Thua Thien Hue had been in the process of becoming the heritage urban area. The Provincial People’s Committee highly appreciated the SAUNAC’s objectives; for instance, building the curricula approaching to the society’s needs; changing the pedagogical methods; connecting with stakeholders in teaching assistance; solving the practical issues in the localities including Thua Thien Hue where the project activities have been implemented. The local authority has made the effort to develop this pilot model for the smart sustainable city.
The important objectives of SAUNAC project implemented at the University of Sciences, Hue University included transforming the creative pedagogical methods into the modern learning approach aiming to develop individuals and collectives’ capacity. The project’s potentials were pilot programs for smart sustainable cities, connecting with stakeholders from the locality, raising the challenges of global environment, sharing the visions on sustainable cities, and creative learning methods.
After 3 working days in Hue City, together with many contributing ideas from the local authority, enterprises and other stakeholders, the projec members would propose some new activities in order to efficiently meet the demand of building smart sustainable cities in Vietnam.
