Faculty members and graduate students from the History Faculty also attended the workshop.

In his opening remarks, Vice-Rector Dr. Phan Tuan Anh emphasized that the workshop was held on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of national reunification, marking an important opportunity to review Vietnam’s socio-economic development journey over the past five decades.

He stated that the event provided a scholarly opportunity for experts to exchange perspectives on achievements, limitations, and challenges, thereby drawing lessons and proposing policy recommendations to advance national development in the coming period. He expressed gratitude to the scholars, lecturers, and researchers within and outside the university community for their participation, and he hoped that the workshop would offer valuable scientific contributions to orient Vietnam’s socio-economic advancement in the future.

Delivering the workshop’s general report, Dr. Duong Quang Hiep, Dean of the History Faculty, noted that in the fifty years since reunification and nearly forty years of Doi Moi - Vietnam has attained remarkable accomplishments. These include sustained economic growth, rising living standards, substantive progress in culture and education, and an increasingly prominent position in the international arena. Nevertheless, the nation continues to face significant challenges, including population aging, climate change, and a range of non-traditional security issues.

The workshop papers focused on topics, including the transformation of economic thought beginning with the Sixth Plenum of the Fourth Central Committee (1979); the development of theoretical frameworks for a socialist-oriented market economy during 2001–2025; economic diplomacy throughout the Doi Moi era (1986–2025).

The workshop served as an academic forum for administrators, scholars, and lecturers nationwide to discuss Vietnam’s significant socio-economic achievements over the past half-century, identify persisting limitations and challenges, and distill key lessons learned.

Participants also proposed policy implications to stimulate economic growth, promote social progress, and guide national development in the new period.

The workshop ultimately reaffirmed the critical role of science and education in synthesizing experience, providing scholarly insights, and shaping strategic orientations for Vietnam’s development in the contemporary era.
