The 13th Vietnam National Conference on Catalysis and Adsorption Held at the University of Sciences, Hue University
On 7 August 2026, the University of Sciences, Hue University (HUSC), in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Catalysis and Adsorption Science and Technology, held the 13th Vietnam National Conference on Catalysis and Adsorption under the theme “Catalysis and Adsorption for the Development of Selected National Strategic Technologies”. The event brought together professors, associate professors, scientists, experts, lecturers, and researchers from universities, research institutes, and enterprises across Vietnam.
Among the distinguished attendees were Prof. Luu Cam Loc, President of the Vietnam Association of Catalysis and Adsorption Science and Technology; Prof. Dang Vu Minh, Honorary President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations; and Prof. Ta Ngoc Don, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Catalysis and Adsorption Science and Technology, alongside delegates from higher education institutions, research institutes, and enterprises nationwide.
Representing HUSC were Dr. Bui Quang Vu, Vice Rector; Prof. Dinh Quang Khieu, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry; and Assoc. Prof. Huynh Thi Anh Phuong, Head of the Office for Science, Technology, International Relations and Library. Faculty members, scientists, and representatives of relevant university units also attended the conference and delivered scientific presentations.
The conference provided a forum for scientists and researchers to present recent findings, share expertise, and discuss emerging research directions in catalysis, adsorption, and advanced materials. It also sought to strengthen links among universities, research institutes, and enterprises, fostering research, practical applications, and technology transfer in support of socio-economic development.
Reflecting its central theme, the conference addressed a range of pressing issues related to energy, environmental protection, materials development, and green technologies. Presentations explored the energy transition and the current technical limitations of renewable fuels; the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Vietnam; the role of catalysis and adsorption in achieving Net Zero goals; the feasibility of repurposing natural gas pipeline infrastructure for hydrogen transportation; and the development of advanced porous materials for applications in thermal energy storage, drug delivery, CO₂ conversion, and organic synthesis.
The scientific programme also featured presentations on advanced materials and interdisciplinary applications, including “Development of Advanced Materials and Interdisciplinary Applications at Hue University”; “Development Directions for Integrated Biorefinery Complexes to Support National Strategic Technologies: Opportunities for Linking Enterprises, Science and Technology, and Innovation in Catalysis and Adsorption in Vietnam”; “Transition-Metal-Based Electrocatalysts for Water Splitting”; “Energy Storage Batteries”; “Functionalized Biochar for Catalysis, Adsorption, and PMS Activation in the Treatment of Emerging Organic Contaminants”; “Synthesis of Nanoscale Metal–Organic Frameworks and Their Potential as Drug Delivery Carriers for Therapeutic Applications”; and “Conversion of Agricultural By-products into High-Performance Photocatalytic Materials for Water Pollution Treatment”.
Among the presentations, Prof. Dinh Quang Khieu, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at HUSC, delivered a paper entitled “Development of Advanced Materials and Interdisciplinary Applications at Hue University”. His presentation highlighted materials research and the potential for interdisciplinary applications across research groups at Hue University.
Taken together, the presentations reflected the breadth of research in catalysis, adsorption, and advanced materials, while underscoring the close links between scientific research and practical challenges in energy transition, emissions reduction, environmental protection, new materials development, and the efficient use of natural resources.
The conference also included a recognition activity honouring professors and associate professors appointed in 2025 who are members of the Vietnam Association of Catalysis and Adsorption Science and Technology, outstanding female scientists, and recipients of the “Best Innovation Award” in 2026. The activity acknowledged their notable contributions to the advancement of catalysis and adsorption.
The conference fostered an open and dynamic scientific environment in which participants exchanged expertise, shared research experience, and explored opportunities for future collaboration. It also enabled HUSC to strengthen its engagement with universities, research institutes, and enterprises, while reaffirming its commitment to scientific research, human resource development, and research in materials chemistry, catalysis, adsorption, and related fields.
On 8 August 2026, delegates continued the programme with a visit to Hue's Imperial City and historical sites. The visit was organized by HUSC in coordination with Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
The 13th Vietnam National Conference on Catalysis and Adsorption provided an important opportunity for the scientific community to expand professional networks, strengthen collaboration, and promote the application of scientific and technological advances. In doing so, the conference contributed to efforts to advance national strategic technologies and support Vietnam's sustainable development goals.
