University of Sciences, Hue University Meets with Kyoto Environmental Activities Association, Japan

On August 3, 2026, University of Sciences, Hue University (HUSC) hosted a delegation from the Kyoto Environmental Activities Association (KEAA), Japan, to discuss cooperation in environmental protection and sustainable development.

Representing HUSC were Dr. Bui Quang Vu, Vice Rector; Dr. Tran Thi Phuong An, Deputy Head of the Office for Science, Technology, International Relations and Library; Assoc. Prof. Hoang Cong Tin, Dean of the Faculty of Environment; Dr. Duong Van Hieu, Director of the Central Vietnam Center for Environmental Research and Technology Transfer; and representatives of relevant units. The KEAA delegation was led by Professor Emeritus Tatsuro Niikawa, President of KEAA, and included Mr. Nobuhiro Okubo, Project Director, and other members.

Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Bui Quang Vu highlighted the cooperation between HUSC and KEAA in recent years, noting its potential for further collaboration in education and training, scientific research, technology transfer, and environmental projects. He also emphasized the importance of closer cooperation in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development.

Professor Emeritus Tatsuro Niikawa introduced the Project for Supporting the Development of Community-Based Waste Reduction and Waste Sorting Mechanisms, implemented under the JICA Partnership Program of the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The project aims to develop a community-based waste management model, raise public awareness, and encourage community participation in environmental protection. KEAA expressed its interest in HUSC’s participation in implementing the project in Hue City, particularly through the University’s expertise in research, education and training, and community service.

The two sides discussed potential areas of cooperation, including scientific research, human resource development, environmental technology transfer, sustainable waste management models, and community-oriented activities. They agreed to continue working together to develop specific cooperation activities, with the Faculty of Environment serving as the focal unit for coordination with KEAA.

The meeting marked a further step in strengthening cooperation between HUSC and KEAA and opened up opportunities for practical collaboration in environmental research, education and training, and environmental protection projects, contributing to sustainable development in Vietnam and the region.
