On 21 April 2026, the University of Sciences, Hue University, held the concluding workshop of the Vietnam–Italy Science and Technology Protocol Project on “Research on orientations for solutions to preserve national cultural heritage associated with tourism development in Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien Hue provinces based on information technology application.” The project, implemented from 2022 to 2026 in cooperation with Marche Polytechnic University, Italy, was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hien.

The workshop reviewed the outcomes of more than three years of research, encompassing 51 tasks and sub-tasks. Presentations addressed the cultural and geological heritage potential of Central Vietnam, environmental and climate-related challenges, heritage-site 3D digitization, GIS applications, and the development of a website for promoting regional cultural heritage. These results highlighted the potential of digital technologies to support heritage documentation, preservation, management, and sustainable tourism development.

Discussions emphasized the need for stronger interdisciplinary research, particularly through closer integration of the social sciences and humanities with engineering and information technologies. Participants also proposed establishing interdisciplinary research groups, strengthening the transfer and publication of project outputs, promoting public–private cooperation in heritage preservation, and developing a roadmap for continued collaboration between the University of Sciences and Marche Polytechnic University.

The workshop concluded with commitments to further develop Vietnam–Italy academic cooperation and to advance the application of technology in cultural heritage preservation and sustainable tourism in Central Vietnam. The protocol project is scheduled to conclude in May 2026, with procedures for its formal acceptance underway.
