On March 20, University of Sciences, Hue University, held the opening ceremony for a training course entitled “Physical Design in Integrated Circuit (IC) Design”, organized in collaboration with a network of domestic and international partners, including the France - Vietnam  Friendship Association (AAFV).

The event was attended by Dr. Bui Van Loi, Acting Vice President of Hue University; Ms. Jeanne Goffinet, Finance Officer of AAFV; Ms. Elizabeth Rodrigues, President of the AAFV Association in the Paris Île-de-France region; Mr. Luu Hue Tien, Director of Sun Edu International Education JSC; Assoc.Prof. Vo Thanh Tung, Rector of the University of Sciences; Dr. Bui Quang Vu, Secretary of the Party Committee; members of the University’s leadership; heads of affiliated units; and representatives from organizations and enterprises operating in the microchip and semiconductor sector, together with lecturers and course participants.

In his address, Assoc.Prof. Vo Thanh Tung stated that the course is a continuation of collaborative efforts initiated in 2023 between the University and its international partners. It is designed to respond to the increasing demand for highly qualified human resources in the context of rapid developments in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and the semiconductor industry. He noted that the program marks a concrete step toward improving the quality of engineering talent, enhancing competitiveness, and gradually reinforcing Vietnam’s position in the global semiconductor supply chain.

University leaders emphasized that developing a skilled workforce in microchip and semiconductor technologies is among the institution’s key strategic priorities. This focus is expected to support the transition toward a high-tech economic structure while contributing to the broader goal of establishing Hue City as a national center for science and technology.

Speaking on behalf of the France–Vietnam Friendship Association, Ms. Jeanne Goffinet expressed her appreciation for the partnership with the University in delivering the program. She highlighted the Association’s commitment to supporting learners, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds - in accessing educational opportunities and engaging in an international learning environment. The initiative is also anticipated to further strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and France in education, science, and technology.

The course comprises two main components: a specialized module on physical design in integrated circuits, delivered by experts from Sun Edu International Education JSC, and a supplementary module covering foreign languages (specialized English and French) as well as essential soft skills. Lecturers from the University of Sciences and the University of Foreign Languages, Hue University, are also involved in the teaching process.

Following a competitive selection process, 29 trainees were admitted as official participants, alongside 7 auditors. The selected candidates demonstrated strong academic performance and a high level of motivation, including several who have overcome significant challenges in their studies.

The program has also received support from the National Innovation Center and Cadence Design Systems, which have provided 20 licenses for integrated circuit design software. This support enables trainees to engage in hands-on learning in accordance with international standards.

Representing the trainees, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Tam expressed her honor at being selected for the course, describing it as a valuable opportunity to gain advanced knowledge, define her career path, and further develop professionally in the high-tech sector.

The “Physical Design in Integrated Circuit (IC) Design” course is expected to help cultivate a pool of highly qualified microchip engineers in Hue, thereby strengthening Hue University’s role in training high-quality human resources and contributing to the advancement of Vietnam’s semiconductor industry within the global value chain.
