Reception of the Director of the Hanoi Office of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

On the morning of December 3, Mr. Felix Wagenfeld, Director of the Hanoi Office of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Hoang Khanh Linh, the local DAAD Ambassador in Hue, visited and collaborated with the University of Sciences, Hue University (HUSC).

 

The reception was attended by Dr. Phan Tuan Anh, Vice Rector; Dr. Tran Thi Phuong An, Deputy Head of the Department of Science, Technology, and International Cooperation; representatives from various academic faculties; and lecturers who are alumni of German institutions.

 At the meeting, Dr. Phan Tuan Anh, Vice Rector, extended a warm welcome to Mr. Felix Wagenfeld and expressed his appreciation for visiting HUSC. He shared that HUSC has made significant strides in fostering collaborations with domestic and international partners in areas such as training, education, lecturer and student exchanges, and scientific research. These initiatives aim to strengthen the research capabilities and expertise of its staff. Over the years, the university has achieved remarkable growth in both the quantity and quality of its training and research programs, meeting the demands of national and international development. Dr. Phan Tuan Anh also noted that the university’s Chemistry Faculty proudly includes two lecturers who completed their doctoral studies in Germany: Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thi Ai Nhung (2009–2011) and Assoc.Prof. Nguyen Dang Giang Chau (2011–2015).

In fact, the partnership between HUSC and educational institutions and research institutes in Germany has seen substantial advancements. Notably, the university is collaborating with the Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU), Germany, to host an international conference in March 2025.

At the meeting, Mr. Felix Wagenfeld provided an insightful overview of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), emphasizing its core strategies. These include fostering professional development through scholarships and alumni programs, supporting higher education institutions in formulating strategic initiatives, and offering diverse scholarship opportunities. He highlighted key programs, such as scholarships for master’s and doctoral studies in different fields like natural sciences and engineering, short-term research programs for doctoral candidates and researchers (lasting 2 to 12 months), and postdoctoral research scholarships.

 Mr. Wagenfeld further proposed initiatives to strengthen collaboration and reaffirmed DAAD's commitment to supporting HUSC faculty and staff in pursuing academic and research opportunities in Germany. He also expressed DAAD's readiness to assist HUSC in expanding collaborations with other German universities.

After the meeting, Mr. Felix Wagenfeld also visited and worked with the Institute of Applied Research in Science Technology, HUSC to explore potential collaboration opportunities between the two parties.
