Workshop on Geo-engineering for responding to climate change and sustainable development of infrastructure

The International workshop on Geo-engineering for responding to climate change and sustainable development of infrastructure was co-organized by Hue University of Sciences and Vietnam Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment at Hue University of Sciences on 17 December 2012. There were about 200 scientists and lecturers from universities, institutes in and outside Vietnam.

Climate change has seriously impacted on economies, societies and ecosystems all around the world, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. The strategies for responding to the consequences caused by climate change are vital in all nations. With the purpose of building the forum so that scientists, experts, and managers could exchange ideas, research results on climate change and appropriate solutions, particularly the role of Geo-Engineering, Geotechnical, ... in the response to climate change. The workshop concentrated on the major topics as follows:

1.    Climate change and its impacts in Asia - Pacific including Vietnam
2.    Geo-engineering to respond to climate change and sustainable development of infrastructure, Theory and Practice
3.    The solutions and policies, technical responses to climate change and development of infrastructure
4.    Experience in Vietnam and other countries. A special session is designed to focus on the Central part of Vietnam which is considered as one of the most vulnerable areas to climate change.

There were 22 oral reports which were presented and discussed in the sessions. In addition, participants had a chance to enjoy the field trip to Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon in Thua Thien Hue province, which is the largest; most famous lagoon in South East Asia on 18 December 2012.
