The Faculty of Literature and Linguistics, formerly known as the Faculty of Letters under the Institute of Hue University, was founded in 1976 with the name of the Faculty of Literature - History belonging to the University of Hue. In 1978, the Faculty of Literature and Linguistics officially became an independent Faculty of the University of Hue, presently Hue University of Sciences under Hue University.
2. Staff and Professional Organization
The Faculty presently has 28 staff members. The number of teaching staff is 26 including 2 Associate Professors, 5 Ph.D holders, 11 senior lecturers, 16 MA holders and 2 assistants. There are 5 departments: Vietnamese Literature, Foreign Literature, Literary Theory, Linguistics, Sino-Nom.
Faculty of Literature and Linguistics offers 3 Bachelor’s courses in Literature, Linguistics, Sino-Nom. At present, the Faculty offers 2 Master's courses in Literary Theory, Vietnamese Literature, Linguistics. From 2012, the Faculty offers 2 Doctor’s courses in Vietnamese Literature and Linguistic Theory. In addition, the Faculty is also in charge of training the gifted classes in Literature for gifted high school students and teaching Vietnamese for foreign students.
4. Scientific Research
The scientific research (individual and group) of lecturers, graduate and undergraduate students focuses on History of Literature, Literary Theory, Comparative Literature, Linguistics, Vietnamese Language, Sino-Nom. Particularly, the key research is the characteristics of literature and linguistics in Central Vietnam and Highlands.
