From Nov 12th to Nov 14th 2016, the International Conference on Vietnamese and Taiwanese Studies was held in Dai Nam city by Center for Vietnamese Studies at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU).
The international conference on Vietnamese and Taiwanese Studies was the largest conference in Taiwan with over 100 scholars from many countries. The Vietnamese delegation was represented by nearly 60 scholars.
NCKU has been the leading university researching on Southeast Asia in Taiwan. It has established the cooperation with ASEAN countries for over 15 years and had the close relations with 8 countries including Vietnam.
The conference taken place during 03 days with 19 parallel sessions researching specifically on social sciences and humanities, such as Comparisions and Contrasts between Taiwan and Vietnam; Teaching Vietnamese to foreigners; International Marriages in Asia; Business, Migration and Identity; etc.
Also, there were lots of leading Vietnamese authors in the fields of linguistics, literature, culture, politics, history, economics, foreign affairs, together with the researchers on Vietnamese and Taiwanese Studies worldwide, such as Ngo Nhu Binh, S.Masaaki, Tran Dang Khoa, Thai Dang Bao, Tuong Vi Van, Izawa Ryosuke, Pierre Magistry, etc. Prof. Hoang Van Hien – Rector and Dr. Phan Tuan Anh – Head of the Office for Science – Technology & International Relations, represented Hue University and Hue University of Sciences to deliver the reports at the conference. In addition, there were 03 plenary sessions with keynote speakers: Prof. Ngo Nhu Binh (Harvard University), Prof. Shimizu Masaaki (Osaka University), Tran Dang Khoa (Vietnam Writers’ Association), Prof. Thai Duy Bao (Australian National University), Prof. Lim Siu-theh (Chengchi University).
Some outstanding reports: Some features of the Taiwan – Vietnam economic relations from 1992 to the first half of 2016 (Hoang Van Hien), Teaching Vietnamese in the USA (Ngo Nhu Binh), Essay of Bach Duong and Nguyen Huy Thiep – The democratic experiences and the spread of democratic space in Taiwan and Vietnam in the post – modern era (Phan Tuan Anh), Romanization, symbolic powers, and civilizing projects in Vietnam and Taiwan,1986s-1895 (Su Huang Lan), Process of Transformation to Intergration in Vietnam and Taiwan from Cultural Study’s Perspective (Tran Ngoc Them), The development of International Vietnamese Proficiency Test in Taiwan (Wi-vun Chiung),... These reports will be published in the Journal of Science on Vietnamese Studies of NCKU in English, Chinese, Taiwanese and Japanese. It can be said that this is a serious scientific activity on Vietnamese Studies in a large scale in the world.
